Ramadan takes place from Mar. 11 to Apr. 9.

Only one team is in the running for AMS executive at Special Assembly today.

As of 3 p.m. on Feb. 13, team LOT—presidential candidate Owen Rocchi, Comp ’24, vice-president (university affairs) candidate Leo Yang, ArtSci ’25, and vice-president (operations) candidate Tyler Tam Tran, Comm ’25—are the last men standing.

In an email, the AMS Secretariat announced Team JDT, which consisted of presidential candidate Jason Kim, Comm ’24, vice-president (operations) candidate Tryphena Evborokhai, HealthSci ’25, and vice-president (university affairs) candidate Dreyden George, ArtSci ’26, dropped out of the AMS race.

AMS Secretariat Alysha Ahmad advised Assembly that should team LOT not be elected through a vote of confidence, Assembly would be given the authority to appoint executives without the team requirement.

Currently, Society policies require the three executives to run and be elected or appointed as a team. De-slating would be considered extraordinary and unprecedented in recent history.

“While we recognize that running as a slate promotes effective collaboration and teamwork amongst the Executive, we note that it is equally important that Assembly have complete faith in all appointed to the new Executive,” Ahmad wrote in the email.

“Waving the slate requirement removes one more barrier for individuals who wish to be a part of the executive, making the process more accessible to prospective candidates.”

On Feb. 12 the AMS Judicial Committee (JComm)—the highest constitutional authority for the AMS—debated whether Leo Yang was eligible to run for the AMS VPUA given an ongoing investigation into the Rector election, where Yang lost to opponent Niki Boytchuk-Hale.

Early next morning, JComm decided the committee voted unanimously that an intention to appeal a Rector election doesn’t constitute as running in two elections simultaneously allowing Team LOT to move forward.

The ruling by JComm stated if the appeal leads to any re-election for Rector or continuation of the elections process Yang will have to choose between either the Rectorship or his position as AMS executive if elected.
