Letter to the Editor: February 8

Dear Judicial Affairs Officer and Journal Editors,

I’m here to write a series of complaints and investigation request for the election process and electoral interference from AMS.

1) For the automatic email that I questioned you last night, it was very misleading as it didn’t speak the truth in which everyone who already voted also got an email saying “you didn’t vote.”

I’m requesting Judicial Affairs to have an investigation ASAP into this and why there are no clarification from AMS for that and why that happened.

That email technically is in favour of this ranked ballot system and my fellow opponent, as students might just vote by the name order (and in which my fellow candidates’ name got placed on the top).

2) I want a number of people who voted after that email was sent and if possible, also after 6 p.m. last night.

I’m requesting Judicial Affairs to have an investigation ASAP into this as again last minutes emails and notifications especially ed the original closing time was very suspicious, as it gave people less times to think and vote just in order rather than doing research or think.

Again, this is clearly in favour of my fellow candidate as her name was appeared on the top.

3) I want to learn how the counting process works in that boardroom.

This is very misleading and again in favor of fellow candidate, as her name appeared on the top, and students who does not follow the election and just wanted the giveaway can easily just ranked based on order.

4) I also want an investigation on why AMS sent “OG” a student influencer to ask him to get 175 more votes for them on the last half hour of the election.

If this is something that came from AMS, this is very manipulated as he has a big follower base and people who wanted to giveaway can easily just and vote based on the name order.

I want to know (which person, from whose order) sent that message to OG – and why only requested right before the ballot closed.

If this is a decision made by Calder or any member of the Marketing team, I would like to request a fellow-up investigation on who gave who the order to ask Owen or even other student influencers that I didn’t follow, as Niki is the former Marketing Director of the AMS.

5) I want to request if possible the elimination of the last four hours of votes (after that misleading email), as again this is purely a pursuit of higher electoral turnout and using free giveaway as incentives.

Students who voted after that time, likely won’t even followed the election and just voted for the giveaway—this system again is in favor of my fellow candidate who’s named is on the top of the ballot.

This is also misleading as that the original time shown on the AMS rector is closed at 6 p.m., but I understand that it’s SGPS’s decision on closing late.

But there are no election policy said AMS have to follow the SGPS policy, and based on the incidents that I explained above, I would love to request to eliminate the last few hours of votes (based on the Judicial Affairs’ decision).

As again this is clearly an interference that is in favor of the system and my fellow candidate.

6) Finally, I want to have all those answers or some of them answer (first) as soon as possible so I can make new investigation request based on the responses before the 24 hours deadline.

Sincerely,

Leo Yang
