Draft of ethical investment policy delayed until the fall

Queen’s ethical investment policy will not be ready until the fall, said Vice-Principal (Operations and Finance) Andrew Simpson.

“We are still working with these committees [Investment Committee and the Pension Committee] to finalize their policies, and hope to have this completed by the fall,” he said.

In April, Simpson told the Journal an ethical investment policy would be ready to present at the May Board of Trustees’ meeting.

“We did not present any “plan” at the May Board, but are looking to present a new policy framework for either the October or December meetings,” he told the Journal via e-mail.

Last year, the Queen’s student group Students Taking Action Now: Darfur criticized Queen’s investment in energy companies connected to the Sudanese government.

“We have been working towards a new framework for addressing SRI [socially responsible investment] issues, including investment policies for the Investment Committee and the Pension Committee,” Simpson said.
