Fencing earns a stab at OUA Championship

The Queen’s fencing team competed in the OUA East qualifier at RMC on Saturday and Sunday. The event saw all six Queen’s teams and 13 Queen’s athletes qualify for the OUA championships.

The competition was composed of épeé, foil, and sabre categories and Queen’s entered a men’s and women’s team into each.

Significant team placements came from the men’s foil and men’s sabre team who both finished ranked first in the OUA East. Eight men and five women qualified for individual events.

Sydney Houston-Goudge finished second in the women’s épeé while Christian Petrozza finished third in men’s foil and Frank Beaucage-Gauvreau placed first in the men’s sabre.

The team will compete in the OUA championships Feb. 13-14 at Carleton University.

Women’s squash earns first place

The women’s squash team secured the first seed at the OUA Crossover tournament at the University of Toronto this weekend. The women won 17 of 18 matches in Toronto, adding to their 23-1 record on the season. The women will compete for OUA championships on Feb. 15-16 at the University of Waterloo.

Gaels come away with a medal in Windsor

The track and field team was in Windsor this weekend to compete in the Can-Am Classic. The only Gaels’ medal came from the bronze medalist women’s 4×200 metre team. Jan Stirling finished fourth in the 300-metre dash, only one second behind third place. Gord Frenke had the men’s most successful performance with a fourth place in the 300-metre race. The team will race again in the McGill Team Challenge in Montreal on Jan. 29-30.
