As winter approaches, new fashion trends are dominating the cold season. Although it’s tempting to throw on sweatpants and a pair of Uggs when temperatures drop, there are several reasons to keep up with the seasonal evolution of fashion.
The clothes we wear every day represent our personal choices. They enable us to make connections and feel our best in the quality of the clothes we wear. Essentially, fashion is an external representation of who we are, displaying our personality and interests.
Here’s a guide to creating your perfect winter wardrobe, including all the essentials to provide both comfort and style during the months.
The oversized look is in style right now. Oversized jackets, sweaters, scarves—you name it. Puffer jackets continue to make an appearance this winter, due to their lightweight features that provide both comfort and warmth. For minimalists, a neutral colour is perfect, such as black, beige, or white. For those who want to elevate the look, patterned puffers are the way to go.
Vintage and archive fashion has been a major component of fashion this year too and will carry through to this winter season. Letterman and varsity jackets are a good investment to keep up with this trend. Double-breasted coats are also back in style—especially for men—after falling out of fashion and making several returns over the years.
Wrap coats are a major trend and a perfect item for your winter wardrobe. They can be layered with sweaters and styled in various ways. Coats that go to the knee or below in length utilize warmth while maintaining a chic and stylish look, even with a hefty sweater underneath.
Leather is also huge right now—as we’ve been seeing through fall coats and Aritzia Melina pants—and will remain in the winter season. A faux leather trench coat is stylish and provides room for layering. Leather provides the final touch to your layered outfit in the winter, pulling together your look.
