The results of the 2025-26 Health Sciences Society (HSS) election were announced late on Feb. 7 after polls closed at 11:59 p.m. the prior evening.
President-elect Arani Hiritharan, HealthSci ’27, alongside Kelly Jin, HealthSci ’26, as vice-president (operations), and Trisha Kotakonda, HealthSci ’27, as vice-president (university affairs), won the HSS election, which featured three candidates running uncontested for their respective positions. A total of 29.7 per cent of eligible voter, 368 out of 1,240, cast ballots to elect the new executive team.

In a statement to The Journal, President-elect Hiritharan expressed gratitude to those who ed her campaign and excitement for the year ahead.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful for this opportunity, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who voted for me and placed their trust in me. Thank you for believing in me. I hope to implement as many meaningful changes as possible and ensure they have a lasting, positive impact,” Hiritharan said.
Hiritharan spoke to the importance of student engagement in shaping HSS initiatives, noting the team looks forward to learning from the experiences of BHSc students and past student governments to identify effective strategies for leadership and areas for improvement.
Jin echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm about taking on the operational role and collaborating with her fellow executive .
“I’m excited and feel very privileged to dive into the vice-president (operations) position this term. Throughout this election period, I have learned a great deal about the goals, plans, and ambitions that my elected peers hope to achieve and have become further inspired with the changes I hope to bring to the Health Sciences Society through team-wide collaboration,” Jin said in a statement to The Journal.
The Journal reached out to Kotakonda but didn’t receive a response in time for publication.
